We will now freely admit to having a slight residual crush on Gavin Rossdale (a.k.a. Mr. Gwen Stefani) dating back to the early ’90s, when Rossdale and his then-band Bush came out with their breathy single, “Glycerine.”But that doesn’t mean we’re biased when it comes to reviewing “Love Remains the Same,” the first video release off his new LP, Wanderlust, which drops next month. And what this song lacks in pure, unadulterated Seattle-inspired grunge, it more than makes up for with gritty, black-and-white broody mood lighting and gratuitous shots of Rossdale in the shower. (Hollerz!)
Turns out the Kilburn, London native is still the soulful, raspy-voiced rocker we’ve crushed on for years. In fact, he seems to have gotten hotter with age. And no doubt, his wife would agree.

Yes, we have all heard that kind of tune. For a bit more than just few times I would say. Unfortunately the new single from Gavin Rossdale sounds rather… Mhmm… Average. It seems to be a fusion of a typical romantic pop song straight from the late 90’s with a classic rock ballade. Rossdale’s voice is not bad at all, just as the rest of the song. Drums, melody, lyrics.. It’s all fine, smooth and polished. The problem is that the song is so terribly schematic that it is almost impossible to memorize it. One can remember the general plan of the tune, how is it supposed to sound like, what it should be about, but “Love Remains The Same” has no particular features that one could stick to.Rossdale, a former singer of the Bush, and the lucky husband of Gwen Stefani was described by the promo company in this way - “Gavin has lived most of his adult life in the spotlight with others. But now, for the first time he stands alone”. Too bad - it may be reasonable for Gavin to go back to the “spotlight with others”, play some more music, wait for some ideas to come, and finally try again.
