Gavin Rossdale: Hard Rock Hotel - Vegas

British musician, Gavin Rossdale is best known for being the lead singer
and guitarist of the former British rock band, Bush. At a young age,
Rossdale learned to play bass guitar and in 1991 moved to Los Angeles
where he was a production assistant on video shoots. He moved back to
London and in 1992, Rossdale formed the band Future Primitive, which
became Bush in the summer of 1994 with the release of their promotional
album, Sixteen Stone. It was a huge commercial success, and almost overnight
Bush went from playing small pubs in London to headlining arenas in
the US where they did extensive, non-stop touring. Bush’s other
albums include Deconstructed, The Science of Things and Golden State.
In 2004, Bush went on hiatus. Rossdale created a song titled, “Adrenaline”
for the soundtrack to the movie, XXX. Following the hit song, Rossdale
has also made motion picture appearances including, Constantine, Zoolander
and Little Black Book. Rossdale’s new album Wanderlust is scheduled
for release on June 3, which will include his new track, “Love
Remains The Same.” Rossdale cites that the album goes back to
his roots from Bush.

Gavin Rossdale: Camden Underworld - Review

June 18, 2008

a review and a description of the Camden Underworld show on 06-11-08

Rossdale gets back to his roots| Music | This is London
Thrusting himself into the front row, gold guitar in hand and drenched in sweat, Gavin Rossdale was every inch the rock star. And the mixed crowd at Camden Underworld adored him for it; even, in fact especially, the grungy fans that preferred a good old head-banging track to the calmer type.

It was a little unusual to see said fans proclaim their love for Gavin before resuming the more subdued image but in the heat of the moment they got away with it. The musician’s enthusiasm was infectious.

The more intense the song, the heavier he would play. His band followed with the frontman bashing drum cymbals in between vocals. To say his performance was energetic would be putting it mildly. If the day job ever wears thin, there is definitely scope for a Gavin’s Onstage Workout fitness video.

The 40-year-old is best known as the former lead of Bush, who made it big in America and secured a dedicated British fanbase. Things have changed a lot since the early days. Gavin now has a wife (Gwen Stefani as it happens) and baby to think about and with the alterations come a new, less angry style.

In most good gigs there is a stand out moment; the one that seals the deal. For this show, it was a toss up between the stunning Glycerine and Chemicals Between Us, both Bush numbers.

But this isn’t to say the new material was dismissed. Things look promising as far as the latest album, Wanderlust, is concerned. With time, these records will be better known and have the potential to make the same impact.

This was a big show crammed into its intimate surroundings. ‘This is a hometown gig,’ the Londoner said. ‘I could just walk back to my house.’ He probably didn’t but he did look excited to be getting back to his roots. ‘Bush played at Camden underworld just as we were going up,’ he added. Let’s hope the same will soon be said for the singer’s solo career. No doubt, he deserves it.

iProng - Interview with Gavin Rossdale

April 13, 2008

iProng - Interview with Gavin Rossdale
It’s Thursday night and Gavin Rossdale and I are walking through the underground halls of the Hard Rock Live, eyeing the memorabilia on the walls as we go. Gavin points to a photo of the Pixies, refers to Black Francis as a deity, and asks if I’m into them. I sheepishly admit that I was a little too young to be into the Pixies back when they were still together and that checking out their music has remained on my to-do list for some fifteen years. I make a mental note to grab ahold of the first Pixies album I can find when I get home. I notice that Gavin’s trademark longish hair has been replaced by a fairly standard cut, and I ask him what happened to his hair. He takes a look at my shoulder-length hair and says “I gave it to you.”

Half an hour earlier, Gavin and I are sitting on adjacent couches in his dressing room, discussing everything from his upcoming album to what the accompanying launch of his solo career means for the prospects of his former band, Bush, which dominated the late-nineties grunge rock scene before dissolving six years ago. This isn’t the first time Gavin has ventured back into music-making since the breakup, but unlike his Institute project in 2005, his latest endeavor seems like it actually has a chance to succeed. When I tell him that I think his newly released ballad of a single, Love Remains The Same, doesn’t sound like it’s tied to the nineties in the way Bush’s ballads generally were, he smiles and replies “Thank the Lord.” - CONTINUED
